Why Projects are not
shared across Contacts
A common question is why Projects that you create for one Contact do not appear when you wish to create a new Project for a different Contact. This is not a bug, it was done deliberately for this reason:
- let’s say you have 50 Contacts and each Contact has 5 Projects. Having to scroll through a list of 250 Projects to find the right one would be impossible on a BlackBerry. Also, our database architecture is such that Projects are specific to Contacts, i.e. the Contact is the over-arching main classification and the Project is a sub-set of that Contact.
However if you do use the same Projects for each Contact, e.g. if for every Contact you always work on Sales, Marketing and Legal, when you do type those Projects in, if you type them in an identical manner each time, you can then sort via them when the spreadsheet arrives, e.g. you can filter the spreadsheet by “Sales” and all Sales-related activities for all Contacts will be shown.
Because this lack of Projects shared across multiple Contacts is a common question, we are planning to build a shared projects architecture later in 2009, and we will release it in our paid-for subscription version of the application.
