Why momentem / Call
Time Tracker doesn’t get its Contacts from Outlook or the BlackBerry address
book
A common question is why momentem doesn’t sync with Outlook or the BlackBerry address book to build its list of Contacts. It’s deliberate. Here’s why;
- in your momentem world, your contacts are often different to how you might name them in Outlook or the BlackBerry. For example, in your address book you will always use the person’s name whereas in momentem you might tag the call to a company or cost center
- you might have perhaps 500 contacts in your BlackBerry but you may only tag calls to just a handful of them, so the last thing you would want is to have to scroll through those 500 contacts every time
- momentem’s database is totally different to the flat-file format of Outlook or the address book. momentem is powerful in that any phone number can be associated with multiple contacts, any contact can be associated with multiple phone numbers, and any contact can have multiple projects. Therefore there is no easy way to match Outlook or the address book with momentem’s architecture
However, momentem is smart in three ways;
- whenever you create a new contact, for example when tagging a call for the first time, if the person’s name is in your address book momentem will grab it and pre-populate the Contact field, so it’s a one-click process to add that contact. You do not need to type the name unless you want to change it
- with momentem you do not need to spend time setting up the contacts in advance; simply build them on-the-fly when you are tagging
- momentem’s powerful learning capabilities ensure that you only ever have to set up a contact once; from then on, momentem will remember which numbers you associated with that contact and pre-populate the Contact field
